National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute

Bill Bonyun Artist/Educator
The Bill Bonyun Artist/Educator Award, will be given to an artist, parent, community member or teacher who is making a positive impact on arts education through significant contributions to the arts in our schools. This honoree will have shown outstanding commitment and dedicated service in arts education, exemplified talent and professionalism as an artist or arts advocate, and been an inspiration to students, teachers, and the community. Bill Bonyun was a life-long arts educator and folk singer whose memory lives on in this award and in the memories of the many people he touched with his talent and personality. Administrator Advocate for Arts Education Award
The Outstanding Advocate for Arts Education Award will be given to a school administrator who has shown outstanding leadership and support of the arts, established exemplary or innovative arts educational programs, and promoted the importance of arts in education of every child. John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Schools of Excellence in Arts Education
The Creative Ticket Schools of Excellence Award will be presented to one school for their outstanding achievement in arts education. The Maine Alliance for Arts Education presents this award in collaboration with the national Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network. To qualify for this award, schools must demonstrate some specific criteria. For more info: link

 

National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute
The Maine Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) is pleased to announce a wonderful opportunity for talented, Maine , high-school and early-college music students. The National Symphony and the Kennedy Center Education Department in Washington DC , with whom MAAE is affiliated, have selected Maine as one the states to send a music student to the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in the summer of 2006 . The student will receive a full scholarship, all expenses paid, for the institute which includes private lessons, chamber music coaching, performance opportunities in the DC area, master classes and seminars, all with members of the National Symphony Orchestra.For more info: link

Coming Up Taller Award
Leaders in Learning Awards
 

American Stars of Teaching
The U.S. Department of Education will continue to focus attention on exemplary classroom teachers who are successful in using innovative teaching strategies and raising student academic achievement for all of their students by recognizing them as American Stars of Teaching. These teachers will be highlighted as representatives of the thousands of teachers who are making a difference in the lives of their students. The next group of American Stars of Teaching will be identified in each state and the District of Columbia and will represent all grade levels and disciplines. Officials from the U.S. Department of Education will again be visiting the classes of each American Star of Teaching to congratulate them on their success. There is no deadline for these nominations.

 

Coming Up Taller Awards
The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) is inviting nominations for the 2006 Coming Up Taller Awards. In partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities is embarking on the ninth year of the Coming Up Taller Awards, which recognizes the accomplishments of exceptional arts and humanities after-school and out-of-school programs. Coming Up Taller finalists receive $10,000, an individualized plaque, and an invitation to attend the Coming Up Taller Leadership Enhancement Conference.

 

Leaders in Learning Awards
Leaders in Learning Awards Seeks Applications starting December 1st

The Leaders in Learning Awards program recognizes administrators, educators, community leaders and policymakers who demonstrate vision, innovation, action and transformation in education. The objective of the awards is to promote and encourage innovative learning practices by honoring individuals who have transformed an aspect of education on a large or small scale. Winners will receive a $3,000 grant, an expenses-paid trip for two to Washington, DC, and will participate in a gala celebration and other activities.
